STAMFORD, CONN. — As part of its Cycle of Goodness initiative, Canidae has introduced new products under its Sustain dog food line.

The line, which originally featured dry kibble only, now includes jerky treats, bone broth toppers and pâté formulas, all of which are formulated with responsibly sourced or sustainable proteins.

The Sustain Jerky Treats are available in four varieties — Free-Range Chicken, Cage-Free Duck, Wild-Caught Salmon and Wild Venison — and all are formulated with responsibly sourced proteins and superfoods. Available in 4-oz bags, the jerky treats are made for dogs of all life stages and are formulated with only six or fewer ingredients to support dogs with sensitivities or allergies.

The Sustain Bone Broth Toppers are available in three different recipes: Cage-Free Chicken, Wild-Caught Alaskan Salmon and Cage-Free Turkey. The toppers are formulated with rice, carrots and premium proteins. Available in 5.5-oz packages, the bone broths can be used as a meal topper or snack for dogs in all life stages.

Canidae’s Sustain Wholesome Pâté dog food is available in three varieties — Cage-Free Chicken, Wild-Caught Alaskan Salmon and Cage-Free Turkey — formulated with premium protein, nutrient-rich vegetables and oats. Available in 11.5-oz packages, the chicken and turkey used in the pâté recipes are sourced from Global Animal Partnership (GAP)-certified farms.

The existing dry dog foods in Canidae’s Sustain line, first launched in April 2021, are formulated with real chicken and salmon. The line also includes a plant-based offering. The kibble is available if three recipes — Premium Plant-Based Protein, Premium Recipe with Cage-Free Chicken and Premium Recipe with Wild-Caught Alaskan Salmon — sold in 4-lb and 18-lb bags. The Sustain kibble line includes three recipes for adult dogs and one recipe for puppies.

The Premium Plant-Based Protein recipe is developed with support from a veterinary nutritionist to ensure the food contains all essential amino acids dogs need. The food is formulated with upcycled brewer’s yeast, which requires fewer resources and releases fewer carbon emissions compared to meat-based recipes, according to Canidae.

The chicken used in the Premium Recipe with Cage-Free Chicken is GAP certified, which ensures humane living conditions for the chickens sourced for the formulas. The salmon used in the Premium Recipe with Wild-Caught Alaskan Salmon is sourced from sustainable fisheries that work to minimize their impact on the environment.

As well as using responsibly sourced or alternative proteins, Canidae’s Sustain line also uses sustainable packaging to further its Cycle of Goodness initiative. The dog kibble is packaged in 40% post-consumer recycled (PCR) bags and the jerky treats are packaged in 33% post-consumer recycled pouches, both of which were developed using plastic bottles. The bone broth toppers and pate recipes are packaged in 100% recyclable TetraPak cartons, which are made from Forest Stewardship Council (FSC)-certified paperboard.

Also as part of its Cycle of Goodness, Canidae has partnered with US farmers who practice regenerative farming, ensuring sustainability is in every aspect of the company’s pet foods.
